Both modern and alternative medicine has contributed to the eradication of some of the deadliest diseases that our specie has seen. Geobeats listed the 10 deadliest diseases in human history.

For more than 10,000 years man has been plagued with smallpox killing hundreds of millions to date.

Approximately 2.6 million people used to die due to this disease, that’s before vaccinations started in 1980. By 2011, only 150,000 deaths have been reported, that is still a huge number.

300 to 500 million throughout the world gets infected with Malaria every year and 1 million of them die.
#6: Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is still a top killer in many countries especially the poor ones. In 2012 alone more than a million people were killed by TB.
#5: AIDS
AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is caused by HIV. More than 35 million around the world either has HIV or full blown AIDS, 1.5 die each year. There is no cure yet for the disease.
#4: Typhus
Typhus killed 3 million in Russia alone in the early years of 1900s.

The Big C kills 7.6 million people yearly.

The Black Death is the term that refers to the plague that haunted Europe for a few years in mid 14th century that killed more than 20 million of its population.
#1: Spanish Flu
An estimated 50 and 100 million people died in less than 2 years between (1918 and 1919). That death toll took more lives than World War I.
